Doula Program

At Roots we believe in creating a circle of support around your birth. We love doulas for support they give both before and during the birth of a baby. Roots has a volunteer doula program, so that every birthing person can have the unique support that only a doula can provide. Meet our doulas below and reach out to interview and see if the doula is a match for you.

Emily Kossila
Doula Intern

Hello! My name is Emily Kossila, and I’m a DONA-certified birth doula and photographer in Robbinsdale, MN. After the transformative experience of the birth of my daughter, I knew that becoming a doula was a perfect job for me. I love educating and creating true connections with people. Helping clients as their family grows is such an incredible honor.

I am committed to anti-racism, anti-transphobia, and anti-homophobia in both my life and doula practice, and am always striving towards more education and action for myself and others to provide the best possible care to ALL my birthing families. E

When I’m not doula-ing, I’m typically at home wrangling my 4 year old Aurora and 1 year old Thorin. My hobbies include vegetarian cooking, watching geeky TV shows, photography, and harassing our cats Scully and Mulder.

Amy Doula Intern

My name is Amy and I am so excited to help women on their journey through childbirth. I am trained as a doula through DONA International as well as studying to be a Registered Nurse and Midwife at the University of Minnesota.

I have a passion for helping others and for empowering women in any stage of life, especially as they are bringing new life into this world.  Whether it be emotional support, physical support, information on classes, guided meditation, relaxation techniques, or to simply occupy space so that you know you don't have to go through birth alone.

I am also a musician and love playing folk music! I have a super sweet daughter and two crazy cats. I love yoga, going for walks, archery, and watching movies with my family.

As a birth doula I love being able to connect all of passions and trainings while being support.I am inspired to help students and prenatal families develop self-awareness while honoring their bodies, breathing techniques to use on and off the mat, and the understanding/awareness of  Mind+Body+Baby connection.  I trained and studied Hypnotherapy and Holistic nutrition. I completed Yoga Study/Teacher training. I am committed to forever deepening my knowledge in yoga and prenatal/labor care.

Bee Laurantier Doula Intern

I was called to birth work as a Peace Corps volunteer. I witnessed the raw power and transformation that birth had on families, and also saw the abundant need for support, love, and unconditional care.

Upon returning to the US, I set my sights on becoming a birth support professional to carry on this passion, and hit the ground running. For the past three years I have pursued courses and trainings in pre-nursing, nutrition & wellness, trauma-informed care, diversity & inclusion, as well as DONA Birth Doula Training and Lamaze Childbirth Education Training through Enlightened Mama.

I believe that every human deserves unconditional support during birth, and it is my mission to provide this service to my community to improve birth outcomes in America. I live happily in the city with my wife and our sweet dog Riot; both ensure that each day is a new adventure. As a family we dream of writing a book on the journey of accessing resources and support for LGBTQIA+ conception and birth!

“I absolutely LOVED it here. My birth was extremely magical and I would like to thank Aly, Evelyn, holly and everyone else that assisted in my birth. They made sure I was comfortable and extremely encouraging when I felt like I couldn’t do it anymore.”
