Meet Olly Sharpe.
Olly (they/them) is a fat, neurodivergent, queer birth assistant and student midwife living in Whittier, Minneapolis. They graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Social Justice from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in 2019. Since completing a doula training in 2020, they have worked as a sexual violence advocate and as a clinic assistant in a Minneapolis sexual and reproductive healthcare clinic. They are excited to join the Roots community and support clients through life's transitions.
Olly’s path to birth work was inspired by their desire to serve their community in a world that does not often prioritize care and support, especially for queer and trans people. Birth work is an avenue for them to show up with love and practical skills. It has always been a strength of theirs to make people laugh and create safe spaces for people to be their authentic selves, while leaning into vulnerability. For this reason, humor is a cornerstone of their practice. They are committed to providing collaborative, anti-racist, trauma-informed, fat-positive, and gender-affirming care.
Outside of work, Olly enjoys spending time in their cozy home with their girlfriend, dog, and three cats. There, they have an ever-growing collection of physical media, like DVDs, VHS tapes, CDs, and vinyl records.
