FAQ - Midwives
-
A midwife is a trained independent medical provider who is an expert in reproductive health, pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Midwives offer a more holistic view of pregnancy than is typical for obstetric care, this means that they believe that birthing people and their body’s are healthy and normal.
-
A community midwife is a licensed midwife with enhanced training for out-of-hospital birth who offers care within a community-based, independently-owned practice and not within a hospital system.
Community based midwives can be certified nurse midwives (CNM), certified professional midwives (CPM).
-
Our midwives are certified and licensed in the state of Minnesota.
Each midwife has years of formal education and internship experience with the support and guidance of an experienced midwife.
The midwifery model is rooted in understanding normal and healthy pregnancy, as well as when to refer to in-hospital midwifery or obstetric care.
Our midwives are trained and experienced in the important live-saving measures needed in the rare event of an emergency.
Roots midwives and birth assistants pursue continued education and routinely practice emergency skills.
