Billing Specialist
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Billing Specialist to join our birth center team. The Billing Specialist will be responsible for both daily claim coding and submission as well as play a key role in revenue cycle management. This position will be a part of a team that also maintains payer relationships, stays abreast of changing payment policy and helps to guide the practice in how to both be compliant and have a smooth payment cycle. The position of billing specialist also carries responsibility for the infrastructure around billing: written procedures, a maintained inventory of payer contracts and their terms, a patient financial experience that is clear and compassionate.
Roots bills both professional and facility claims and utilizes Athena as our primary EHR/Practice Management as well as an accessory software for documentation.
This position can be up to 75% remote and minimum of 25% in person in the office. We value a cohesive staff as well as understand that billing operations need a boots on the ground sort of person.
Must have billing and coding experience and a passion for birth center and midwifery care.

Duties
Code and submit claims
Work claims for timely and complete payment
Provide practice and team guidance for compliant coding and charting.
Manage and maintain payer contracts
Maintain awareness of the birth center billing policy landscape
Work closely with birth center leadership to maintain smooth billing and clinical systems
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information while handling customer inquiries professionally and providing excellent service.

Executive Director
Roots Community Birth Center is a licensed, freestanding, midwife-led birth center in North Minneapolis. Roots provides full-scope midwifery care, birth services, and well-person care to families across Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and the greater Twin Cities.
The Executive Director position is a new role for Roots Community Birth Center and Family Wellness. This role will be responsible for guiding the practice in both the business operations but also just as importantly in our community relationships. This person will set the culture for our staff and clients. This role is not clinical though a passion and deep knowledge and belief in community birth as a health care solution is required. Clinical experience and insight is of course valued as well. A community organizing framework and understanding is a key value for Roots.
The Executive Director will work directly with the Owner and Board of Directors and be responsible for guiding daily operations closely with the Clinical Director and Practice Manager.
Roots exists because Minnesota’s birth outcomes are not equally distributed. Black infants in Minnesota die at roughly twice the rate of white infants. Roots was built to interrupt that pattern through culturally centered, relationship-based care. Roots is a small practice by design and intends to remain one.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience
Minimum three years of management experience including direct responsibility for budget and operations.
Experience supervising staff, including hiring, performance management, and separation
Demonstrated understanding of structural racism in health care and a track record of work advancing racial equity
Support for midwifery and alignment with the philosophy and mission of Roots Community Birth Center
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client health information
Preferred
● Working familiarity with Minnesota Health Care Programs, Minnesota Department of Health facility licensure, or CABC accreditation
● Grant writing and fundraising experience
● Existing relationships in North Minneapolis or the broader Twin Cities community health landscape
● Lived experience reflective of the communities Roots serves
Compensation $90,000-135,000 commensurate with experience . 401k, Benefits, PTO
