Cesarean Birth Awareness Month 2026 | Roots Community Birth Center | Minneapolis, Minnesota
C-Section Awareness Month | April, 2026
Every year, April is the month dedicated to bringing awareness to cesarean births and the impacts it has on birthing families. We’ve continued to see a rise in the frequency of c-section births broadly in our country and locally in our state. Care at Roots Community Birth Center itself is a preventative model of care that reduces preventable c-sections. Our midwives are skilled in supporting low-risk pregnancies and physiologic birth.
Roots Community Birth Center is one of the few stand-alone birth centers in the state of Minnesota that can support VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) families. Promoting VBAC as a safe option for many, is an important component of Cesarean Birth Awareness Month. At Roots, we can support care for those who have had one cesarean birth.
While Roots midwives does not perform cesarean surgery, we do care for folks who started in our care prenatally, needed to give birth via c-section for various medical reasons and resume care with them postpartum once they are discharged home from the hospital. The frequency of our visits postpartum (compared to conventional OB postpartum visits) support the emotional load of a change in birth and postpartum more fully.
Through awareness, advocacy, research, and resources we can move towards reducing the incidence of c-sections in this country, supporting mental health and advocating for vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).
