2025 Reflections | Roots Community Birth Center | Minneapolis, Minnesota

2025 was my sixth year here at Roots and one the sweetest pieces of being somewhere this long is the amount of repeat clients I’ve been able to see return to us. It’s always a joy to watch a family grow and it is especially lovely to watch Roots babies become big siblings. We love to include kids in care and three-year-olds make excellent assistants for listening to their baby siblings' heartbeat in the office - so special to also know I heard their heartbeat in utero!

I love to see the way families change, grow, evolve and in particular grow in confidence. One thing I’ve always believed about parents is that they are the best decision makers for their own children. Watching the confidence that a first birth and the early years of parenting brings folks is a special piece of midwifery. Watching folks return for a healing birth, a different birth and yet another birth of themselves as a parent is one of those layers of midwifery that is hard to quantify and explain but is so important.

Looking into 2026, I wish you all a year of growth, rest and kiddo cuddles.
